Here Comes the Generation Net
The traditional university student is apart of the Net Generation, which are those people born 1980 or later. They are the first generation to grow up digital (Tapscott, 1999). For the Net Generation, television has always been in color and the deliveries of most services have always been available on the Internet or other technology. The Net Generation has grown up with technology. Living in a microwave popcorn world, the ability to find and manipulate information in a matter of minutes has always existed. Due to their background, the Net Generation has adopted a different set of premises and expectations that call for new and sometimes challenging responses from student service providers (Oblinger, 2005). Technology has and continues to play such a prominent part in student lives, universities must focus on how to better meet and satisfy Net Generation needs with the services they provide.
